Following my 'Nutrition for Beauty' workshop last month, a couple of you have asked me what skin products I use on my face. Considering my family and I have been trying to minimise our exposure to commercial chemicals, toxins, and excess oestrogens over the last wee while, I choose to use entirely natural ingredients, ones that can be found in your very own home.
There is a total of two ingredients in my face wash and moisturizer:
Organic Raw Coconut Oil
Coconut oil absorbs easily, doesn't add unwanted shine to the skin, and has numerous health benefits for the skin. A component of the natural oils secreted from our facial pores helps to protect the face from absorbing harmful bacteria. This is why it is important to maintain our natural facial oil, and why coconut oil is a wonderful ingredient to use on the face. Coconut oil doesn't eliminate natural oils and has anti-bacterial properties that help to enhance bacterial protection, which can subsequently reduce acne, keep pimples at bay, and ensure the skin doesn't absorb unwanted environmental toxins. If you suffer from excess oil secretion, you initially may want to regulate your hormone levels as this is often a sign of excess testosterone, and you can support this by using coconut oil on your face as for some people it can help reduce excess oil.
I also use coconut oil as my make-up remover. A couple weeks back I used a dark red lipstick that stained my lips, and after rubbing a small amount of coconut oil across my lips, the lipstick easily lifted off, and the stain had vanished.
Extra-virgin Olive Olive
Olive oil has numerous benefits for the skin. It can apparently relieve dry skin, as well as irritated skin. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants that are absorbed through the skin, and work to reduce the damage caused by free radicle molecules, which are one of the major causes of premature aging.
The best quality olive oil is green, not yellow or translucent, which is something to keep in mind when buying your olive oil.
The combination of these two ingredients make a brilliant face cleanser and moisturizer. I use the exact same solution for washing my wash each night and moisturing morning and night. In the morning I only use water to wash my face.
If you are pregnant or nursing, this is a great product to use to eliminate the amount of toxins absorbed into your own body and into your baby.
