I have some exciting news I wanted to share with you all. I have just signed on with The Well Garden in Hackney to become one of their Nutritional Therapists. The Well Garden is a unique wellness community that offers a range of health and wellbeing therapies to East Londoners. I can not wait to be a part of a like-minded community, and hope to offer some workshops in the near future to encourage you on your health journey.
A midst all the emails back and forth, and the early morning health coaching consults, I have found that smoothies are the easiest way to get enough quality fat and protein in to prepare for the day. It's fair to say that peanut butter is my absolute favoutire condiment - especially when it comes to baked squash and roasted sweet potato. I understand that sounds counter intuitive, but just give it a go yourself :)
At the moment I am loving Meridian peanut butter and almond butter, which I buy from Wholefoods. I suggest always searching for nut butters that are void of added sugar, which Meridian is great for. We tend to go through a lot of nut butter because of the vast amount of smoothies we make - plus Luke LOVES eating it straight from the tub (I'm also guilty of this) - so we buy the 1 kg tubs, which are great value for money. I used both their almond and peanut butter for this deliciously thick and creamy smoothie.
Benefits for the body
Flaxseed is a wonderful addition to the diet for two reasons; it binds with old estrogen to then be excreted from the body, and secondly, it bulks out stool to help move food through the bowel more efficiently.
Hemp protein powder is a new ingredient I have recently been playing with. Luke and I have been enjoying vegetarian meals recently, but have been feeling the lack of protein in our diet. This is why I invested in a hemp protein powder - specifically Sevenhills Wholefoods Hemp Protein Powder as it is very affordable. Hemp contains all the essential amino acids required for adequate protein consumption. Obviously one tablespoon isn't enough for an entire day - but it does consist of around 5g of protein.
Lastly, nut butters add to the overall nutrient-dense fat quality, as does coconut cream. This provides adequate fuel for a busy day of coaching and writing!
